Essie Sunday Funday Comparison Essay

Hi guys!Today I have a ton of comparisons for you, there were a lot of suggestions from you guys that unfortunately I can't do due to not owning the polishes you wanted to see compared. Hopefully for those another blogger can do them for you guys! This is a pretty lengthy post so I'm just going to get into it! Click the read more button after the collage for all the comparisons!

China Glaze Budding Romance vs China Glaze Trendsetter vs Zoya Shawn. No dupes here, Trendsetter is much more yellow, it also has shimmer. Shawn is a lot darker and more green.

China Glaze Budding Romance vs Illamasqua Hectic. I used 2 coats of Hectic and 3 of Budding Romance for the photos below. No dupes here unfortunately, Budding Romance is much more of a jelly finish and it's more yellow toned.

China Glaze Dandy Lyin' Around vs Nicole by OPI All About The Glam. This should have included China Glaze Frosty as well since I think it's actually pretty close to Dandy Lyin' Around but I cannot seem to find my bottle anywhere :( I'm still looking for it so if I find it I'll post a comparison of them later on. Anyway, these 2 are not dupes, they are similar but the China Glaze is much more opaque and nicer looking overall. I think if you layered All About The Glam over white it would be a nice dupe of Dandy Lyin' Around. I used 3 coats of Dandy Lyin' Around and 4 of All About The Glam for the photo below.

China Glaze Fade Into Hue vs China Glaze Electric Beat vs Color Club Hydrangea Kiss. Apologies for the bottle shot of these ones, I couldn't get a color accurate photo of them on the nail for some reason. No dupes between these 3, Electric Beat is more of a blue leaning periwinkle while Fade Into Hue is more of a purple leaning periwinkle. Hydrangea Kiss is kind of in the middle of both of these but it's brighter than both on the nail.

Zoya Neely vs China Glaze Keep Calm, Paint On vs China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint vs Orly Jealous, Much?. Jealous Much and Neely are pretty close here, Jealous Much is a touch darker but it's not a big enough difference to need both IMO. If you could only get one I'd go with Neely, the formula is much better. With the other 2 polishes here there are no dupes either, Keep Calm, Paint On is more blue toned and it's also a shimmer and Re-Fresh Mint is a lot brighter than all the other polishes. I used 2 coats for each polish.

China Glaze Pink-ie Promise vs Orly Artificial Sweetener. No dupes here either, the shimmer in Artificial Sweetener is more noticeable and it's also more of a dusty rosy pink. I used 2 coats for each polish.

China Glaze Snap My Dragon vs. OPI The Color of Minnie. These 2 are pretty close but not dupes, The Color Of Minnie leans a bit more towards red, where Snap My Dragon leans more to pink. The shimmer is very similar in them. I don't think you need both, I can't say I prefer one over the other...the formula and color of both is pretty!

OPI A Woman's Prague-ative vs OPI Pros & Bronze vs OPI DS Luxurious. A lot of you wanted to see China Glaze Riveting and China Glaze Harvest Moon here also but I don't own either of those, sorry! No dupes between these 3, all beautiful though! I used 3 coats for A Woman's Prague-ative and Pros & Bronze and 2 coats for DS Luxurious for the photos below.

Here is a whole ton of blues for you, I did do these all on the nail but again my camera was like NOPE. It's weird how it's easy to photograph all of these on their own but when you put them next to each other on the nail you have issues, maybe it's just me? Who knows. Anyway...the only close dupes between all of these are Zoya Robyn and China Glaze Sunday Funday, they aren't exact but it's hard to tell them apart on the nail. The rest are similar-ish but definitely not dupes.

OPI I Saw...U Saw...We Saw...Warsaw vs Nicole by OPI Khloe Had A Little Lam Lam vs China Glaze First Mate. No dupes here, Khloe Had A Little Lam Lam is much more teal and First Mate is lighter and more of a navy blue. I used 2 coats for each polish.

OPI My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours vs OPI Red Lights Ahead...Where? vs China Glaze Roguish Red. Alright, now here is another that is hard to photograph, this post...my gosh. I almost rage quit these comparisons a few times, no lies. Red Lights Ahead...Where is much more red (even though it's leaning orange in the photo), it also has no shimmer. Roguish Red also has no shimmer and it's a bit of a darker shade of orange. They look closer in the photo than they are IRL. I used 2 coats for each polish for the photo below.

OPI My Vampire Is Buff vs OPI Don't Pretzel My Buttons. These 2 aren't very close but I thought I'd include it since it was requested.

OPI My Vampire Is Buff vs. Lime Crime Milky Ways vs Zoya Jacqueline vs Illamasqua Load. Load is the oddball here, it's much more yellow than the others. Milky Ways & Jacqueline are very very close to My Vampire Is Buff but I wouldn't call either of them a dupe...maybe like fraternal twins (triplets?)? In the sun they look very close but the difference is easier to see in the shade. Do you need all 3? nope. I'd go with Zoya Jacqueline out of the 3...it had the best formula in my opinion. I used 2 coats for My Vampire is Buff, Milky Ways & Jacqueline and 3 coats of Load for the photos below.

Lighting: Shade

OPI OPI...Eurso Euro vs China Glaze First Mate vs China Glaze Man Hunt. No dupes with these 3. First Mate is more of a navy blue and Man Hunt is a lighter/brighter blue. OPI....Eurso Euro has nice purple undertones that are hard to see when it's on it's own but once you put it next to something more blue its much more noticeable. I used 2 coats for each polish.

OPI OPI...Eurso Euro vs OPI Dating A Royal vs Revlon Urban. No dupes here either, Dating a Royal is more of a jelly and it's a lot lighter. Revlon Urban has the right undertones but it's a few shades darker. I used 3 coats of Dating A Royal and 2 coats of OPI...Eurso Euro & Urban for the photo below.

OPI Oy Another Polish Joke vs OPI Goldeneye vs Zoya Ziv. No dupes between these 3, compared to Ziv and Goldeneye, Oy Another Polish Joke is much more of a yellow gold. You know whats weird? I don't like gold polish and I like all 3 of these haha.

OPI Suzi's Hungary Again vs OPI Come To Poppy vs OPI My Address Is Hollywood. No dupes here either, Come To Poppy is much brighter and the shimmer is pretty different. My Address Is Hollywood is darker and more shimmery. I used 2 coats for the photo below.

OPI Vant To Bite My Neck? vs OPI Sapphire In The Snow vs Essie No More Film. Surprisingly no dupes here, I actually don't have a dupe for Vant To Bite My Neck...I thought this would be an easy one to find something exact for! Sapphire In the Snow is a couple shades darker (you probably don't need both but they aren't dupes). No More Film leans much more towards blue. I used 2 coats of each polish for the photos below.

OPI Vant To Bite My Neck? vs a england Elaine vs Zoya Pinta vs Zoya Monica. No dupes here either, Elaine is darker and looks very brown toned when it's next to the other polishes. Monica is dustier and lighter and Pinta leans more towards blue. Pinta is looking a bit darker in the photo because of the angle of my finger, it's a dupe of No More Film if you want to refer the photo above!

Here is another big old bottle comparison for you because my camera was just seeing blue with these (so sorry guys). From Left to Right is Essie Lilacism, Zoya Julie, LCN Lilac Blossom, OPI You're Such A Budapest, China Glaze Tart-y For The Party, OPI Done Out In Deco and Essie She's Picture Perfect.

Crazy enough there is not 1 exact dupe in this bunch. Lilacism is much lighter than all the other, Julie is also lighter than all the others and it's also packed with shimmer. Done Out In Deco is much more of a grey toned lilac. The only close polishes here are LCN Lilac Blossom and OPI You're Such a Budapest. They aren't exact but close enough that I wouldn't get both, I'd go with the OPI if I had to pick.

Orly Boho Bonnet vs Zoya Kristen. These 2 looked exact in the bottle but ones on the nail Boho Bonnet is a little bit darker. You definitely don't need both of these, I'd go with Zoya Kristen since the formula is better! I used 2 coats for the photos below.

Orly Coachella Dweller vs Jessica Lime Cooler vs Essie Navigate Her. No dupes here either, Lime Cooler is more yellow toned and a lot brighter compared to Coachella Dweller. Navigate her is more of a pistachio green, it's more murky and yellow toned. I think you probably don't need all 3, I myself like Navigate Her the best of the 3! I used 2 coats for Navigate her and Lime Cooler and 3 coats of Coachella Dweller for the photo below.

Orly High On Hope vs Orly After Party. These 2 are similar but definitely not dupes, High on Hope is a navy blue base and After Party is a black base. In addition to that the shimmer is pretty different. I don't think you necessarily need both, they are different but definitely in the same family, if that makes any sense. I think High On Hope is the more unique polish of the 2! I used 2 coats for each polish.

Zoya GeiGei (GieGie? still haven't figured out which is right) vs OPI Pedal Faster Suzi. Pedal Faster Suzi is quite a few shades darker and not quite as shimmery. Unless you really like pink you could probably skip on either of these, my favorite is the Zoya. I used 2 coats of GeiGei/GieGie and 3 coats of Pedal Faster Suzi for the photo below.

Whew, well I hope that was helpful for you guys and answered some questions about dupes!

*some of the polishes in this post were provided to me for review*

Middle left to right: Tart Deco, Lounge Lover, On the List
Bottom left to right: Carousel Coral, Sunday Funday, Sunshine State of Mind

Well friends, we've come to the last of the coral comparisons. I've done the Red Corals, Peachy-Pink Corals and now we'll take a look at all the Orange Corals.

For some reason, this group especially screams summer to me! Let's take a look at all the formulas and how they apply.

Haute As Hello

I acquired this polish because Austrian bought it for herself and hated it. I really love it but it does have a finicky formula. It dries fast and at three coats I can still see some streaking. I think a coat of Fill the Gap would've helped with that but I didn't use base coat, so I went for a 4th coat of polish. The more coats I added, the less it wanted to self-level so by 4 coats I had some ridges. I needed top coat to smooth everything out. It may look like a coral polish in the bottle but once on the nail it's straight up orange. In the bottle Haute As Hello looks VERY similar to Resort Fling but as you can see in the collage up top, they are totally different.  It's like a pastel neon orange.  Despite the formula, I honestly love it so much. If I want to wear an orange polish, it's this one. If you hate finicky polishes, Haute as Hello is probably not for you, but it's a beautiful unique colour in my collection so I can deal with it. This polish came out in the Summer of 2010. It must've been added to the permanent collection because I've seen it on the shelves at my local Shopper's Drug Mart. You can probably also find it online.

Resort Fling

This polish is another 4 coater but I'm not in love with the colour so I've never liked this polish. Like from the moment I bought it I hated it. I'm coming around to it's dusty quality and I probably like it more now then I did 3 years ago, but because I don't love the colour, the fact that it's a 4 coater bugs me. It's a sheer jelly/crelly polish and at 3 coats you can still see your nail line. That would be fine if it wasn't so streaky but it is, so I always need the 4th coat to even everything out. The plus is that the formula isn't thick and is easy to apply. There's also no ridging and it self-levels nicely. I broke a nail yesterday so my nails are a tad shorter than they've been for the rest of the coral comparisons, but if they were still a bit longer I think my nail line would be more obviously visible. Depends if you like that look. This polish would work well as a jelly sandwich. Resort Fling was the namesake polish of the 2014 Resort Collection. It wasn't added to the permanent collection, so this is a polish you would have to track down online.

Peach Side Babe

Peach Side Babe is a pretty peach with a bit of pink tones to it. It has a nice creamy formula. It was mostly opaque in 2 coats but I had a couple nails that needed a 3rd coat to smooth out the dark spots, but it was easy to apply. This polish came out Summer 2015 and was added to the permanent collection. I found it here on Amazon.

Tart Deco

This is a cult-classic Essie coral. It's similar to Peach Side Babe but with less peach tones and more pink. It has a creamy formula. It's opaque, smooth and self-leveled in 2 coats. It came out in Spring 2010 - The Art of Spring Collection (along with Van D'Go, Neo Whimsical and Lilacism). It was added to the permanent collection and you could find this one anywhere. I found it here on Amazon.

Lounge Lover

Lounge Lover leans even more pink than Tart Deco. It's nice and opaque and has a creamy, self-leveling formula. Opaque mostly in 2 coats (the odd nail may need that 3rd coat). It came out last year in the Spring 2016 Collection but I don't think it was added to the permanent collection. This one should still be pretty easy to find though, since it only came out a year ago. Either on clearance shelves at the the drugstore or online.

On the List

I borrowed this one from my friend Bailey. It's both bright orange and bright pink at the same time, it's very pretty! It has a nice formula and is easy to apply in 2 coats. It also self-levels nicely. The wide gel couture brush also makes it easy to apply. This came out last summer in the core Gel Couture line and you could find it anywhere. I found it here on Amazon.

Sunshine State of Mind

This polish is the darkest orange out of all the ones here, but it still has those pinky coral undertones (you can see that more clearly HERE when it's up next to straight oranges). It has a really nice self-leveling formula. I must not have closed my bottle properly the last time I used this colour because it had thickened and become goopy and stringy (basically unusable). I added a ton of polish thinner and it still looked thick and ridgy when I applied it to my nail, but then it self-leveled! There's no top coat at all in this pic to smooth out the surface. When I had a brand new bottle, the formula was nice and smooth and easy to apply and was opaque almost in one coat. It came out in the Spring 2016 Collection along with Lounge Lover, but it wasn't added to the permanent collection either. You should still be able to track it down online fairly easily though.

Sunday Funday

I included Sunday Funday in the Red Coral comparison because it's so dark and saturated in colour, but it also has strong orange undertones so it needed to be here too. It's quite similar to On the List, just a touch darker/more saturated. It's a 3 coat crelly formula with fine silver shimmer. It was added to the permanent collection and I was able to find it here on Amazon.

Carousel Coral

This polish was in the Peachy-Pink Comparison. It's so close in colour to On the List as well, it's just a bit more toned down. While On the List is bright this one has a dusty quality to it. It's opaque in 3 coats. It came out in 2003 so it might be a tough polish to find but my friend found it on sparklecanada.com.

Here's all the polishes next to each other on a swatch wheel:

Haute As Hello is the lightest, brightest and most orange. Resort Fling is quite on the orange side of coral as well, but also has a dusty, toned-down quality to it. Peach Side Babe is lighter and a bit peachier than Tart Deco. Tart Deco is a touch darker/more saturated in colour than Peach Side Babe (although they are quite close). Lounge Lover is a pinker version of Tart Deco. Carousel Coral is very similar in colour to On the List but it has a dusty toned-down quality to it, and On the List is nice and bright. I would say it's most similar to Lounge Lover with a touch more orange instead of pink. Sunday Funday is a darker more saturated coral with fine shimmer and Sunshine State of Mind is very orange.

My very favourite out of all of these is Haute as Hello because of that colour! I know its not everyone's cup of tea to work with a tricky 4 coat formula, but I get past it because of the fun bleached neon orange colour. Peach Side Babe would be another fave because of it's peachy tone. All of these are so perfect for summer! Which one is your fave?
